Celebrating a 100 year birthday
We have had a lovely day helping Una celebrate her 100th birthday.
Here’s a little insight into Una growing up ….
Born in 1920, in Frome Somerset, Una was one of five children. I attended Christchurch School and then went on to St John’s. I have a very special friend from school called Mrs Legg (I can’t remember her first name), but we still keep in contact with now. She will often writes me letters and sends me birthday and Christmas cards.
I never went to work when I left school because of my poor eyesight. I used to stay at home helping with the milk round and the farm.
In 1939 I married Tom, and not long after we married our first child was born in December 1940. We had two further children and I went on to run the post office in a tiny little village called Great Elm, near Frome. I did this until sometime in the seventies.
I absolutely loved gardening and always grew lots of vegetables. Everyone used to say what an excellent cook i was! I used to bake every week.
In the lates 80s we moved to Weymouth to be closer to our daughter and shortly after my husband passed away I was given a guide dog whom I named Franny. She was a black Labrador. I absolutely adored her and she went everywhere with me.
Happy Birthday Una!
